Appearance of the Kit
pose, expression, details/articulation, accuracy (or originality)

Joe Dunaway has done an exceptional job of rendering perhaps the most unique monster of the decade.  No detail is missing and the strange shape of the creature is articulated perfectly. And the extraneous fish (that have either grown out of the mutation or feed on it . . . yech) are nicely detailed as well.  Plus there is a nice, subtle skin texture and the pose is in mid-gallop. Very well done.

Construction and Quality of the Kit
ease of assembly / fit of parts,
putty / sanding work,
quality of cast / ease of painting /painting options

Resin Realities produces high quality kits, but they are also old school and I cannot recall a "lock and key" style fit for any of the several R&R kits I have bought.  So what does this mean?

Well, the casting is good, but you need to do some trimming, pinning, puttying and sanding before you prime and paint.  But, this is what modeling is all about . . . the whole process.  Not a big deal, in my opinion, but also, not a beginner's kit.

Time/Energy/Money
how much effort, headache, etc. is there versus the cost

As I mention above, this is not a snap-tite kit, so there is work involved, but to me, this is really exciting kit and more than worth the $110.  Also, to my knowledge, it is the only kit of this subject and probably will be the only for some time . . . maybe for ALL time, so if you want it, grab it!

Other Factors
"wow" factor, suitability for dioramas, flexibility for modification

How can you not be "wowed" with this kit?  Besides the fact that it is very well done, this creature looks like nothing else ever, so it is a real show stopper.  Personally, I like kits that have some visual value built in . . . in other words, they have style, character, uniqueness.  Well, this fits the bill.

As for modification, I think a skilled builder could open up that mouth, but it would be a major project.  However, there are a number of base possibilities . . . running through the park, emerging from the water, stalking through the sewers, smashing through a trailer.

Overall Recommendation
Level of skill required and general thoughts

Again, if you are a beginner, this is not the kit for you.  However, if you have done kits for a while and want something truly unique and satisfying to work on, this is the kit for you, my friend.  I think it is a real winner and with the new 2 disc Host DVD out now, you can really get a good look at the creature from the film.
