Appearance of the Kit
pose, expression, details/articulation, accuracy (or originality)

The sculpt . . . like all of Sean Cooper's Paleocraft kits I have seen . . . is absolutely top notch.  There is an incredible amount of detail and precision in the articulation of the kit and the pose is powerful and authentic.  You can see that Cooper does his research and the end result is a kit that draws attention to itself on a shelf. The fur is well done and leaves a lot for a drybrusher, but the muscles are not lost in the process.  Very nice work indeed.

Construction and Quality of the Kit
ease of assembly / fit of parts,
putty / sanding work,
quality of cast / ease of painting /painting options

Paleocraft utilizes Mike Evans at Alchemy Works, one of the longest standing casters in the business, so you get a lot of experience here.  In fact, Alchemy Works has gotten even better in the last few years and I must say, this is a nearly perfect cast.  All the parts fit beautifully and you would not even need glue for the tusks, which are flawless.  You have to do a little flash trimming, but not much and there is no need to sand that I can see.

It is also a nice hefty piece of resin and all the parts are spaced nicely making painting relatively simple.

Time/Energy/Money
how much effort, headache, etc. is there versus the cost

This kit is very easy to do and really could be knocked out in a weekend with great results. It is priced reasonably, especially when you consider that you don't need to clean it up much at all and will use very little putty.  Personally, I like to see kits that are designed for the builder to complete with ease, so that makes it worth the money, especially given the commanding drama of the kit.

Other Factors
"wow" factor, suitability for dioramas, flexibility for modification

I think this kit begs for custom work on a larger base, so dioramas are a real possibility.  It might be a little difficult to find additional animals to match, like sabertooths, because even though Cooper creates such animals, they are typically in a different scale.  You could modify the pose, but I would only recommend that for an advanced builder.  However, two on same base might be impressive.

Overall Recommendation
Level of skill required and general thoughts

Well, if you couldn't pick this up from the rest of the review, this is a highly recommended kit.  I think a true resin beginner could get great results with this kit because it goes together so well and looks so good on a shelf.  I feel really fortunate to be able to work on these kits (though many of them are on commission, so I hate to see them leave!)
