If you are a horror movie fan and you don't know who Zacherley is, slap yourself right now and save me the trouble of tracking you down. Zacherley was the nation's second horror host, beginning his show in 1957 first as Roland on Philadelphia's WCAU channel 10 before moving to New York to become a legend on WABC's Shock Theater. Among the most dynamic and quick-witted hosts of all time, Zacherley's career brought him beyond the cardboard dungeon and into the world of books, music and a Bandstand type show called "Disc-O-Teen."
This book is going to mean the most to people from NYC during Zacherley's reign on the airwaves, but since he has done so many appearances, lots of people will enjoy the information and insights in this book. The book is essentially a collection of interviews, recollections, promo materials and anecdotes, and there is a certain degree of disorder and redundancy. On the other hand, it is the definitive account of Zacherley's life on the airwaves to date and it is chocked full of detail. As such, if you are a fan or a horror host junkie, it is a very necessary part of that experience.
