February 20th, 2008:
It's official! Kitbuilders has stepped forward to create a second
kit show . . . right around Halloween and located near the center of the
USA in St. Louis, Mo.! mark your calendars for October 24-26, 2008.
When I, your faithful editor started in the
hobby in the late 1990s, there were seven major kit shows all over the
country. Most had crashed by 2001, with only Wonderfest hanging on.
So, many folks have been hoping to see a second show emerge, as a sign of
the reviving health of the hobby as much as anything else.
I have to say this looks great. Here
is a small sampling of the events planned:
There is a tribute to the 40th
anniversary of Night of the Living Dead, including an appearance
by George Romero himself as well as most of the cast.
A model contest (of course) with "open"
style judging . . . i.e. your work is judged on its own merits.
Shuttle bus trips to "The Darkness," a
top notch haunted attraction.
A Saturday night concert featuring
horror themed bands.
A costume contest, Kit Builder's
University, a Kit Builder's Challenge and much, much more.
Fight the power, wash behind your ears
and for heaven sake, if you are surfing the web right now,
take a minute to think about how cool monster models are and go
immediately to
our sale
page and buy a kit!
